Die Lange Nacht der (guten) Geister

The Long Night of the (Good) Spirits

The "Long Night": a symbol of expanded consciousness, detachment – of excess as much as of deep focus on important questions. This spring, we once again invite our audience to embark on an adventure exploring the dynamic interaction between music and art. The "good" spirits are at the center, bringing life to the approaching night: angels hover around the listeners, awakening memories of lost friends, zombies drift through the air, encountering grumbling gnomes, jealous lovers torment dancing nymphs, lightning-struck geniuses whisper their visions, while the red death tries to disguise itself. Musicians from the Stuttgart State Orchestra perform grand, picturesque, captivating, delicate, and unexpected pieces – stirring music in the art-rich environment of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, the Stuttgart Art Museum, and the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart. The exhibited art transforms the diverse auditory experiences, just as the music alters the visual perceptions. Whether in the newly presented 20th and 21st-century collection This is Tomorrow at the Staatsgalerie, in contrast to the Doppelkäseplatte double anniversary exhibition at the Art Museum, or in dialogue with exhibits at the Kunstverein.
